POLICE: Child molester sentenced to prison
Kenneth Wayne Roberts gets 35 years
Kenneth Wayne Roberts, a former Menlo Park martial arts instructor, Wednesday was sentenced to 35 years in state prison for molesting young boys.
Roberts, 26, entered a plea of no contest in March to 30 counts of child molestation. Roberts, who worked at Kim's Tae Kwan Do studio at 562 Oak Grove Ave, originally had been charged with 139 counts.
The plea was negotiated in order to save the boys from the ordeal of testifying in court, said Rick Good, a San Mateo County deputy district attorney who prosecuted the case.
The charges involved seven boys ages 11 to 15, all of whom had been students at the martial arts studio.
The molestations all took place over a six-month period last year before Roberts was arrested in August. The owners of Kim's studio on Oak Grove Avenue assisted in the investigation, said Menlo Park Police Commander Steve Lewis.
