Howard County police arrested an instructor at a Fulton jiu-jitsu training center this week for allegedly violating sex offender registry requirements.
Police said Scott Brian Naugle, 44, of Laurel, was arrested Wednesday and charged with failure to register as a sex offender as required.
According to police, Naugle was convicted of sexual battery of a child in another state, and after a guilty plea and conviction in that case, was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
Police say Naugle came to Maryland about 15 years ago but never registered as an offender.
Police said they recently received a tip about Naugle and he was arrested Thursday at his business, Leverage Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Fulton. The website for the studio lists Naugle as instructor and notes that the center offers classes for all ages. Police said Naugle owns the business.
Naugle was released Thursday from the Howard County Detention Center on $25,000 bond, according to online records, and police said he has been ordered to have no contact with anyone under the age of 18.

He also must register with the Maryland sex offender registry within three days of his release, police said.
Naugle could not be reached for comment Friday. A number listed for his home address was not in service. No one could be reached at the studio, and a person answering the phone at another number listed for the studio declined comment.
An attorney listed for Naugle in online records could not immediately be reached.
Police said they have not received any allegations of sexual misconduct involving Naugle in Howard County. They are asking anyone with information to share to call 410-313-STOP or email [email protected].

FULTON, Md. - A jiu-jitsu instructor was arrested, police say, for violating mandatory sex offender registry requirements.
Officers say 44-year-old Scott Brian Naugle faces two counts related to his failure to register as a sex offender since he moved to the state of Maryland approximately 15 years ago.
In 2003, investigators say Naugle was convicted of sexual battery of a child in a different state. After his guilty plea and conviction in that case, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for life as part of his sentence.
Instead, police say, Naugle left the state, moved to Maryland, and never registered as a sex offender.
Howard County authorities say they received a tip that led them to discover Naugle's violation status. Officers arrested Naugle at the Leverage Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Fulton, a business that he owns and operates. Police say Naugle offered private lessons and classes at the academy for students of all ages, including children and teenagers.
Naugle has been released from the Howard County Detention Center on $25,000 bond and has been ordered to have no contact with anyone under the age of 18. He must register with the Maryland sex offender registry within three days of his release.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 410-313-STOP or email [email protected].
