YOUNGSTOWN
A Youngstown man received 18 months in prison for molesting two young relatives.
Kevin Singleton, 63, of Francisca Avenue, was sentenced Friday on three counts of gross sexual imposition.
Singleton had previously pleaded guilty to inappropriately touching two female relatives in 2015 when they were 13 and 15 years old.
One of the victims submitted a written statement that a relative read in court Friday.
Both victims were scarred for life by the incident, the relative read, and she said receiving justice would be a relief.
“Show no mercy,” the relative read. “He only stopped because he was caught.”
Singleton told the court he is full of remorse and sorrow for what he did.
“I have cried myself dry to the Lord,” Singleton said. “There’s never going to be enough remorse from me on this.”
Singleton’s defense attorney asked for probation, arguing that Singleton has no criminal record and has taught karate to hundreds of children and received no complaints and nothing but adulation.
He called Singleton a nationally and internationally acclaimed karate expert.
The Professional Karate Commission website lists Singleton as an 11-time national champion.
Judge Maureen A. Sweeney, however, imposed the maxmium sentence of 18 months on each count, to be served concurrently.
Singleton also will be required to serve five years of post-release control and register as a Tier I sex offender.
