MARIETTA, Ga. -- A Marietta father is singing the praises of the detective who handled an investigation into child molestation at a Cobb County martial arts studio.
In January 2012, taekwondo instructor Young Jin Shim was charged with aggravated child molestation for having sex with one of his students at Shim's Martial Arts Academy of Taekwondo. He was ultimately convicted.
Michael Zimmerman's two daughters attended the martial arts school and were questioned by a detective with the Cobb County Police Department.
Zimmerman said he was impressed with the detective's handling of the case and wanted Cobb County residents to know the cailber of people employed by the police department.
Zimmerman's letter to the Cobb County Police Department can be read below:
My name is Michael K. Zimmerman and I have two (2) daughters that had attended Shim's Martial Arts Academy of Taekwondo on East Piedmont Road from June 1, 2011 until the arrest of the instructor Young Jin Shim on 1.25.12 by Detective C. Adam Payne.
I am compelled to bring to your attention the extraordinary professionalism, attention to detail, empathy for not only the victim and the victim's family but empathy to any and all of the other children (students) and their families who [were] negatively impacted by such an evil act(s) perpetrated by a child molester.
Detective C. Adam Payne is an extraordinary investigator. Prior to, during and after the interview of both my daughters on 1.27.12 by Detective Payne and his female associate he made sure that their little minds were not accidentally influenced by either my wife or myself. That we were at ease during the interview process. When the interviews were completed he took the time that was necessary to explain as much as he legally could in order to put our minds at ease.
Now as you know Young Jin Shim is a convicted child molester. He will not be a threat to my children or any other children on the planet for the next 20 years thanks to the competence, attention to detail and proven successful investigative tactics executed with tenacity, focus and pure intuitive talent by Detective C. Adam Payne.
Detective C. Adam Payne sets the precedence for his subordinates, peers and superiors alike to emulate.
As a parent and 22 year resident of Cobb County I am extremely well pleased that we as a community are blessed with knowing that Detective C. Adam Payne is at work diligently and with superb conviction doing everything in his power to protect our children.

An instructor at a Cobb County martial arts school has been arrested for allegedly having a sexual relationship with an underage student.
A juvenile female told Cobb police "that she began a relationship with her Tae Kwon Do instructor," police spokesman Mike Bowman said.
He said that according to the girl, the relationship evolved into a sexual relationship with incidents occurring at Shim's Martial Arts Academy of Tae Kwon Do on East Piedmont Road and at the Roswell home of the instructor, Young Jin Shim.
On Wednesday, detectives arrested Shim, 32, and charged him with aggravated child molestation, Bowman said.
Shim, 32, is being held without bond in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.
