REDWOOD CITY -- A San Mateo martial arts instructor was convicted on child molestation charges Monday and will spend up to three years in state prison for the crimes, prosecutors said.
Meng Ricky Wong, 36, pleaded no contest to charges he inappropriately touched a 9-year-old girl and an 11-year-old girl who took classes at Tat Wong Kung Fu Academy, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
Though Wong was slated to spend 15 years to life in prison if convicted on lewd conduct charges, Wagstaffe said the conditions of the plea bargain will send him away for no more than three years.

The two young victims told police similar stories about their alleged encounters with Wong at the studio on 43rd Avenue in San Mateo. In each incident, the girls reported he took them to the second floor of the studio and fondled them, one in August 2010 and the other in October 2011, prosecutors said.
Wong's attorney, Raymond Buenaventura, did not immediately return calls for comment.
Wong remains out of jail on $100,000 bail bond and will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, Wagstaffe said. He will return to court Nov. 19 for sentencing.

San Mateo Kung Fu Instructor Accused Of Fondling Students
April 11, 2012 4:27 PM
SAN MATEO (CBS SF) — A Redwood City man who taught Kung Fu at a San Mateo martial arts studio has been arrested on suspicion of lewd conduct with two girls, and he will be arraigned next week, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
Meng Ricky Wong, 36, worked as a Kung Fu instructor at Tat Wong Kung Fu Academy for more than a decade, from approximately 1999 to 2011, police said.
He was arrested by San Mateo police on March 12 on a $100,000 arrest warrant alleging four counts of lewd acts with a child after two young female students came forward saying Wong had fondled them.
District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said Wong posted bail the same night.
Wong is scheduled to appear in court on April 19 to be arraigned on those charges and an allegation that there were multiple victims, Wagstaffe said.
The charges carry a maximum sentence of 15 years to life in prison. Had there been only one alleged victim, Wagstaffe said, the maximum sentence would be 14 years in prison.
San Mateo police detectives believe that there may be other victims and are looking to speak with the parents of female Tat Wong students between 8 and 12 years old.
The two girls who have already come forward are 9 and 11, police said.
Anyone with information about the investigation or about Wong is asked to call San Mateo police Detective Alex Rizzato at (650) 522-7669.
