A local man charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child has been sentenced to spend the next 15 years in the can.
Raul Villacaña, 31, plead guilty to the offense during a Monday’s hearing before Judge Migdalia Lopez of the 197th State District Court.
Lopez then gave Villacaña 15 years in prison.
The case against a second man, Aaron Joseph Infante, charged under similar circumstances was dismissed, although it still is under investigation.
Villacaña, part-owner of Villacaña Fitness, and Infante of Lyford were arrested during the first weekend of November 2014 on charges of sexually assaulting a 12- and a 14-year-old girl at the center where the two men were teaching and the girls were taking martial arts classes.
Villacaña had been allegedly abusing a 14 year old girl, while Infante did so with a 12 year old girl, police said at time.
Following the arrests, Police Det. Denise Ledesma said Villacaña gave a full confession after he turned himself in on Sunday November 8.
Infante was arrested on Friday, November 6 at the fitness center.
Ledesma said the girls’ parents found out about their daughters’ involvement with the men through Facebook.
She said they started seeing provocative pictures of the girls and contacted police.
Ledesma said one of the abuses has been going for more than a year.
Following Lopez’s sentencing, Bernard Ammerman, the Willacy County District’s Attorney, said he talked to the victims’s family about it and was told they agreed with the sentence.
As to Infante’s case, Ammerman declined to comment, saying that it is under investigation.
That, however, did not please some of the police officers involved in the investigation that led to the men’s arrests.
