HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - We've uncovered new information on a disturbing child sex crime case out of Henrico. The former karate school employee, accused in the case, made incriminating statements at the time of his arrest.
That's according to the attorney for 19-year-old Trevor Campbell.
Campbell is charged with exposing himself to a 6-year-old girl and making the child touch his genitals at a karate school on Patterson Avenue. Campbell is expected to be released on a $20,000 bond Thursday.
His father spoke to me about what's next for his son. Campbell will undergo counseling. His father told me counseling starts as soon as his son gets out of jail.
Donald Campbell said he wants his son to have a clear conscience and urged him to tell the truth. Campbell's attorney, Greg Sheldon, said his client made some inculpatory statements consistent with what I first reported last Friday.
Police said Campbell took a 6-year-old girl into the bathroom at the American Colleges of Karate on Patterson Avenue and exposed his genitals then had the girl touch him. In his bond motion, Sheldon stated his client has never been charged with a crime before and his parents are willing to supervise Campbell.
When Campbell bonds out, according to these court documents, he must wear a GPS device on his ankle which is monitored by the jail. Campbell will also be under house arrest, meaning he can't leave his parents home on Hill Club Lane in Ashland or the yard for that matter without permission from the jail.
Court papers revealed Campbell works in shipping and receiving at Every Day Education, an educational book company run by his parents. His father said his son took adult classes at the karate school then was asked by the owners to work part time as a helper.
The school's attorney said the owners have received overwhelming support from parents.
Campbell is charged with taking indecent liberties with a minor and aggravated sexual battery. He'll be back in court next month for a preliminary hearing.
