Convicted martial arts child rapist sentenced to 5 years in prison

Robert Morrison was someone children confided in and parents trusted. Victims said that's how he got away with his crimes for so long.
"He was a great mentor, a great teacher, just like a father to me. I trusted him with everything, all my secrets,” said a victim.
Morrison owned Lee's Martial Arts in Renton. Investigators said he carried out a years-long sexual relationship with a then-15-year-old girl.
KIRO 7 isn’t releasing the victims’ identities to protect their privacy.
"I can't rid of that image, of my baby being raped,” said the victim’s father.
Morrison was emotional as he apologized to her in court Thursday.
“I know that sorry is not enough. Words can never be enough,” Morrison said.
He also admitted to sending nude pictures of himself to three other teenage girls. They were all his martial arts students.
“What I did was horrible, wrong and inexcusable. I've known that since it began,” Morrison said.
His family asked the judge for a second chance.
"A person can live their whole life the right way and with one mistake and single lapse of judgment it can ruin their entire life,” said Morrison’s ex-wife, Wonderful Morrison.
"My dad deserves the SOSA and the least time allowed so he can make a better path for himself,” said Morrison’s daughter.
Although many victims said they forgive Morrison for what he did, they all said they'll never be the same.
“I was young, I trusted him, and he took advantage of me,” said a victim.
Morrison isn’t allowed to be in contact with the victims for seven years.

Bellevue Man Raped Teen At His Martial Arts Studio: Guilty Plea

Last Thursday, Morrison pleaded guilty to three counts of third-degree child rape and two counts of communication with a minor for immoral purposes.
According to court documents, Morrison began grooming the girl when she was age 14 and a student at his Lee's Martial Arts dojo. Morrison began the abuse by sending near nude photos of himself to the teen via Snapchat or text. Those photos became more lewd over time. Two other students at Morrison's studio have accused him of sending them explicit text messages.
Morrison allegedly began touching the teen after she turned 15. The first occasion happened at his Bellevue home, inside his "man cave." Renton police got involved in 2016 acting on a tip from state Child Protective Services. Morrison was initially arrested on Aug. 24, 2016. He will be sentenced Sept. 21.

RENTON, Wash. -- Police have arrested the operator of a martial arts studio for having sexual conduct with underage girls.
Police arrested a 42-year-old Bellevue man who owns Lee’s Martial Arts, located at 405 S. Third St. in Renton.
The man waved his right to appear in court Thursday. He is being held without bail, and has not been charged.
Police say a complaint to Child Protective Services began the investigation. Police say a martial arts student told investigators that she was 15 years old when the man began developing a sexual relationship with her.
Court documents say the man and the girl who was a student at the studio had a sexual relationship that began with an exchange of Snapchat photos. First they were clothed, then naked. The two had sex at the man's home and at his studios in Renton and Maple Valley, court documents say.
Two other students have come forward, saying that the man sent them inappropriate pictures on Snapchat. Investigators are checking to see if there are additional victims.
Renton detectives have served search warrants on his Bellevue home and his Renton martial arts studio.
In an affidavit used to obtain a search warrant for Snapchat records, a King County Sheriff's Office detective writes that in June, deputies went to Dimmitt Middle School in the Renton School District. At the school, two sisters said their older sisters, ages 15 and 17, had been sent inappropriate photos by the man.
Deputies talked to the older sisters at Renton High School. They said they were martial arts students of the man, had visited his home and were friends of his daughters.
They got Snapchat photos from the man. They showed him naked. In one case, his genitals were blacked out. In another, the caption "Did you remember to brush your teeth" was over his genitals.
The older sister quit going to the martial arts studio. She told deputies that she had gone to dinner with the man and he had tried to hold her hand.
She also said in December 2014 she had been at a Christmas party at the man's house. She was downstairs in the house by herself. She was lying on a couch and using her phone when he climbed on top of her, the affidavit says. She pushed him off and he stopped his behavior. In April 2016, he took her to dinner. They went to her home, where he took a shower and emerged wearing only a towel.
He laid next to the girl and said they could cuddle with their clothes on or naked, according to the affidavit. She told him that she was uncomfortable, so he left and got dressed.

Charges: Martial arts teacher raped student, sent others videos
Bellevue man alleged to have groomed students for sex at Renton, Maple Valley studios
By LEVI PULKKINEN, SEATTLEPI.COM STAFF Updated 3:30 pm, Sunday, August 28, 2016
A Seattle-area martial arts instructor accused of sexually abusing a teen girl has been charged with rape and a host of other offenses.
King County prosecutors claim Robert J. Morrison sent sexually graphic Snapchat videos of himself to at least three girls and raped a fourth, a 15-year-old who was a student in his school. Morrison, 42, was arrested Wednesday.
Morrison, a Bellevue resident, used his position to sexually exploit the girls he was supposed to teach, Senior Deputy Prosecutor Nicole Weston said in charging papers. He abused their trust, Weston continued, and raped one of the girls he groomed multiple times.
“The victims looked up to the defendant as a mentor and even a father figure,” the prosecutor told the court. Morrison, she continued, “preyed on their vulnerability and trust.”
Morrison taught martial arts at studios in Renton and Maple Valley. Investigators say he had sex with the 15-year-old at both those locations, as well as his home and car. He faces third-degree child rape charges stemming from those allegations, as well as a separate charge related to the nude photos he is alleged to have sent the other girls.
According to charging papers, Morrison taught at Lee’s Martial Arts in Renton and Maple Valley. He is currently jailed.

Writing the court, investigators said the girls reported that Morrison sent them sexually explicit messages on Snapchat. One of the girls said Morrison coaxed her into sending him snaps of herself, too.
Morrison is alleged to have sent one 15-year-old girl a photo of himself standing naked, partially covering his genitals. The caption read “Did you remember to brush your teeth.”
A detective investigating Morrison’s Snapchat activities interviewed him in June. According to charging papers, Morrison explained he was sending the girls reminders of “healthy habits.”
Having learned of the investigation, Morrison then sent one of the girls a message saying she shouldn’t have “run you (expletive) MOUTH.”
“THAT’S (expletive) U MAY BE 15 in age but you’ve seen a lot, so don’t act innocent,” Morrison wrote to the girl, according to charging papers.
Morrison is alleged to have admitted to sending the messages but denied that they were sexual advances.
Morrison is currently jailed on $300,000 bail. He has not entered a plea to the charges against him, three counts of third-degree child rape and one count of communication with a minor for immoral purposes.
