PINELLAS COUNTY, FL (WFLA) – A Tae Kwon Do instructor is under arrest on molestation charges after detectives said he inappropriately touched two girls under 10 years of age. Andrew Jim Kim, 23, is accused of lewd and lascivious molestation of the girls, ages 6 and 7.
The investigation started when one of the girls told her mother she had been inappropriately touched. The mother called the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and that led to the second alleged victim.
Investigators said Kim touched the girls sometime between 2014 and 2015 when they were undressed at Oh’s Tae Kwon Do. He told them to keep it a secret, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
“Yeah, this is shocking,” said a parent picking up his 7-year-old son at Oh’s Tae Kwon Do in Seminole.
“I’m so glad that they caught him and he’s in custody now,” said Richard Oh, a Tae Kwon Do master and the owner of the studio. “Never knew he would do anything like that … Never expected it.”
“We teach our students to protect themselves from people like this,” Oh added.
Oh said his concerns are with the alleged victims, their families and the rest of the families who attend the studio.
Parents like Diana Gomez said this is a sad and painful lesson, one that she has already taught her children.
“If anybody touches you that you don’t want them to touch you inappropriately, what do you do?” she asked her daughter as the two stood together outside the studio.
“Tell mommy,” the daughter said.
As for the facility’s future, Oh said he may close it even though it’s been open since 1988.
“I think it’s very unfortunate for the community and anything that happened here,” one parent said. That parent said his trust in the studio is not lost.
Investigators said Kim confessed. He was arrested Friday and is charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious molestation.
Detectives said he may have had contact with other children when he was the instructor. If you have any information regarding this investigation or any other potential victims, please contact Detective M. Kolenda with the Crimes Against Children’s Unit at (727) 582-6200.

Seminole tae kwon do instructor in jail for child molestation faces first lawsuit
by Phil Ammann
A tae kwon do instructor accused in 2016 of multiple child molestations over a period of years faces his first lawsuit in Pinellas County Circuit Court.
In early 2016, Andrew Jin Kim, an instructor at Oh’s Taekwondo in Seminole, was arrested and charged with molesting two female students, aged 6 and 7.
Shortly after, WFLA reported that a third child came forward to accuse Kim, now 24, of molestation.
Detectives said, Kim, a native of Illinois, worked at the dojo from 2012 to August 2015.
Myung K. Oh and his wife, Myung J. Oh, are listed in tax records as owners of the property on which Oh’s is located, 7520 Seminole Blvd. in Seminole. At least one news article about the alleged molestation identified the dojo’s owner as Richard Oh — possibly Myung K. Oh is the same person.
“I am very sorry for the victims and the families. I am truly sorry for what happened,” Richard Oh told the Tampa Bay Times. “We teach students to defend themselves from people like (Kim). He got caught, and I’m glad he got caught.”
In the first lawsuit emerging in the case, filed Dec. 29 in Pinellas County, Sakha Temeka Reed, a 40-year-old St. Petersburg resident, claims that over a three-year period, Andrew Kim “continually sexually abused and molested” her minor child, listed as “John Doe.” The molestation left the child — which is alternately referred to as “John Doe” and as “her” — with severe psychological injuries.
Reed is accusing Oh’s of negligence in its hiring, training, and supervision of Kim.
The Tampa Bay Times article said when confronted, Kim “admitted to the allegations and was arrested,” although court documents do not give a clear indication why there will be a trial. He remains in Pinellas County Jail.
The first three charges against Kim were filed in February 2016, and two additional charges were filed in April 2016 — which could bring the number of alleged molestation victims to as many as five.
In an unrelated incident, Myung J. Oh sought a restraining order in March 2016 against her son, James Oh. The mother accused the son of robbing her multiple times, threatening her and other family members, firing a gun in the house, threatening suicide, and saying he was addicted to drugs and alcohol.

SEMINOLE (FOX 13) - Family and colleagues of a martial arts instructor accused of molesting a 6- and a 7-year-old girl said they were in disbelief by his arrest Friday.
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Crimes Against Children Unit arrested 23-year-old Andrew Jin Kim, an instructor at Oh's Tae Kwon Do in Seminole. He faces two counts of lewd and lascivious molestation.
Oh's owner, Richard Oh said he was shocked by Kim's arrest.

"I feel so bad because we teach our students to defend themselves from people like this," Oh explained. "I never thought that my cousin would do anything like this, so you never know who could be, who could do actions like this."
The investigation began in January after a victim told her mom Kim touched her inappropriately while at Oh's. The girl's mom called the sheriff's office.
According to investigators, Kim touched both victims inappropriately while they were undressed, then told the girls to keep it a secret.
"He obviously knew he was doing something wrong," said Cecelia Barreda, a Pinellas County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.
Kim was interviewed by detectives February 5 and admitted to the allegations, then arrested. He was held at the Pinellas County Jail.
Meanwhile, parents were reflecting on their own children's experience at Oh's.

"I trust the place a lot, for my kids to come here. I haven't had a bad experience. He has been very, very good," parent of a martial arts student Diana Perez said.
Investigators said the incidents happened between 2014 and 2015.
Detectives believe Kim may have had contact with other children. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Detective M. Kolenda with the Crimes Against Children's Unit at (727) 582-6200.

Detectives assigned to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Crimes Against Children Unit arrested 23 year-old Andrew Jin Kim of St. Petersburg, Florida.
Kim was employed by Oh’s Tae Kwon Do located at 7520 Seminole Blvd in Seminole, Florida. He served as a Tae Kwon Do instructor from August 2012 through August 2015 at which time he was terminated for being dishonest about work related functions according to the owner, Richard Oh.
Detectives say the owner of the business has been cooperative in this investigation and had no knowledge of Kim’s criminal behavior.
In March 2014, Kim allegedly asked a 6 year-old girl to touch her toes as she stood on a toilet at the facility. He then proceeded to touch her inappropriately. Kim advised that he attempted to video record the act and made incriminating statements after being read his Miranda rights.
In March 2015, Kim allegedly repeated a similar act with a 7 year-old girl and once again he stated that he video recorded the act.
For these two acts, Kim was arrested and is facing charges of Lewd and Lascivious Molestation.
Detectives feared at the time that more victims may exist since he worked at the facility for 3 years. They have requested that the public come forward with any information regarding inappropriate contact Kim may have had with other children.
As feared, the mother of an 8 year-old girl spoke with her daughter about the matter and on Monday, February 8, 2016, she came forward and reported an incident to the Sheriff’s Office. Mom began a conversation with her daughter after being sent a link regarding news about the arrest of Kim.
The investigation places the most recent crime about August 2015. Kim picked up the 8 year-old girl from school to transport her to the Tae Kwon Do facility. Kim reportedly forced the victim to engage in a sex act with him while in the van, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. As in the previous cases, Kim asked the girls not to tell anyone about the incident.
Detectives have now placed an additional charge of Capital Sexual Battery on Kim. He is currently being held without bail in the Pinellas County Jail.
Understandably, many parents and caregivers are now very anxious about sending their children to the many area after-school programs. The benefits of children participating in after-school programs are well documented but these very rare circumstances many times overshadow these wonderful benefits.
