Tyler McDonough was an instructor at Master An's Taekwondo in Bedford in 2014 when the girl was assaulted. In a written impact statement, the girl said she had known McDonough since she was 8 years old and that she looked up to him as a mentor.
"You used me and took advantage of how young and vulnerable I was," she said.
Before issuing his sentence, Judge David Ruoff talked about how McDonough violated a position of trust.
"I hope you realize the significance of the conduct and the impact it has on people that trust us as leaders," Ruoff said.
The girl said in her impact statement that it was difficult to come to grips with what McDonough did to her, given their relationship.
"I was stuck trying to figure out how to feel about writing this and saying this to you because we were so close," she said.
McDonough declined to speak at his sentencing. Ruoff noted that the victim seems to have moved on despite the trauma.
"She talked about how she's not going to let this define her, even though she's been significantly traumatized by this," Ruoff said.
Once he is released from the county jail, McDonough will have to register as a sex offender in Manchester.
