A Tucson martial arts instructor has been sentenced to 2.5 years in federal prison for possessing hundreds of child pornography images.
David Michael Lader, 41 will also be fined $30,000 followed by lifetime supervised release with sex offender conditions, a U.S. Attorney’s Office news release said. He was ordered to provide a DNA sample.
Lader pleaded guilty to possessing more than 300 child pornography images on his home computer. Many were acquired over the Internet and involved children younger than 12, officials said. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested him in April 2004. Lader, who is not in custody, must surrender to U.S. marshals Oct. 12.
In delivering the sentence yesterday, U.S. District Judge Raner Collins noted that at the time of the crime, Lader was a registered sex offender yet was teaching children and adults.
He worked at the Tucson Racquet & Fitness Club and through The Dojang martial arts school, according to Tucson Citizen archives.
Lader has two misdemeanor indecent exposure convictions in Ohio from 1992, the Citizen previously reported.

A prominent Tucson fitness and martial arts instructor is facing seven child pornography charges in federal court.
David Michael Lader, 40, goes to trial Dec. 14 on charges that he received eight pornographic images by computer Jan. 29 and possessed three images April 15, court records show.
Lader, who was indicted earlier this year, taught children and adults at the Tucson Racquet &Fitness Club, The Dojang martial arts school at that club and at other locations. If he is convicted, his sentence could range from probation to 10 years in prison.
Federal prosecutors said the pictures on Lader’s three computers were part of his collection of more than 300 images of child pornography, including pictures of children under age 12.
Lader’s attorney, Richard Lougee, said the pictures the government alleges Lader possessed show Russian children who are not engaged in any sexual activity.
“At no time is there another individual involved,” he said. “When most people picture child pornography, they picture children having sexual acts committed on them by adults. That’s not what is in these pictures.”
Lougee stressed “there is not a suggestion in the evidence or the history that David Lader ever laid a hand on a child or wanted to lay a hand on a child.”
He said he’s received 20 to 25 “glowing letters” of support for Lader from adults who worked with him, observed him at his studios or had children in his classes.
The Tucson Citizen featured Lader in a January story about the release of his DVD on a fitness program he developed called “Warrior’s Dance.” An enthusiastic Lader told the Citizen he hoped the program, a mixture of martial arts, dance and yoga, would become the next national fitness craze. He said he had taught the dance to students ranging in age from 4 to 97.
Lader described himself as a student of martial arts and fitness for more than 20 years, a certified fitness instructor, a fourth-degree master of tae kwon do and the founder and operator of The Dojang.
At the time, Lader had about 80 students taking Warrior’s Dance classes at three locations: the Tucson Racquet & Fitness Club, Zuzi’s Dance Theater and the Tucson Jewish Community Center. He said he planned to open a 3,500-square-foot studio in June that he hoped would be the model for other Warrior’s Dance centers in major cities across the nation.
Lougee said until the charges are resolved Lader has stopped teaching, is no longer involved with The Dojang and has put his plans for the studio on hold. Lader is free on $100,000 bond, according to court records.
He is prohibited from using the Internet or having unsupervised contact with children younger than 18 under the conditions of his release.
