Teacher found guilty of sexual contact
Published Tuesday, April 06, 1999
LITTLE ROCK (AP) -- A martial arts instructor was sentenced to 30 years in prison after being found guilty of sexual contact with students in his class.
Nicholas Hollis II received the maximum sentence of 30 years for three counts of first-degree sexual abuse.
Pulaski County Circuit Judge John Plegge said Monday the sentence will run consecutively with a seven-year sentence for similar convictions in Independence County. One of the victim's parents from that case testified Monday.
"I wanted to show the pattern of behavior he's shown and that he will do it again," said Deputy Prosecuting Attorney John Hout. He said the victims in the latest case involved sexual contact with three girls aged 11 to 12.
A former business associate of Hollis, whose daughters were among the victims, said Hollis taught martial arts in Salina, Kan., before returning to Arkansas about 1995. He said one girl in Kansas was waiting to see the outcome of the Arkansas case before filing charges there.
Hollis has a black belt and has taught tae kwon do. He taught martial arts in Searcy before moving to Kansas.
In Independence County, he was charged with one count of rape, four counts of first-degree sexual abuse and two counts of sexual harassment. He pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual abuse in that case.
