A 30-year-old karate instructor who had sex with a 14-year-old female student at a Summit County home was sentenced Tuesday to prison for up to 15 years.
Andrew Jackson Davis was initially charged with rape, aggravated burglary and carrying a concealed weapon. He pleaded guilty in 3rd District Court to reduced charges of attempted aggravated burglary and unlawful sexual activity with a minor.
Davis was arrested in May 2005 after he sneaked into the Peoa home of the girl's aunt, who called police when she saw Davis' legs poking out from under the girl's bed.
He had a loaded handgun in his waistband when he was arrested, according to police.
Davis - owner of Kanshindo Karate in Pleasant Grove - is also accused of having sex with the girl in Utah County, where he is charged with 12 first-degree felonies.
Prosecutors say Davis met the girl at his karate studio, but had sex with her during what were supposed to be private lessons at his Orem home.
Davis allegedly gained the girl's trust by claiming he was dying of cancer, prosecutors said.
A trial is set for Feb. 22 on the Utah County charges.
