Teen: 36-year-old molested me
Mother and boy lived with man who also worked at JK Tae Kwon Do studio in Burbank.
February 19, 2009|By Veronica Rocha
BURBANK — A 15-year-old Burbank boy testified Wednesday that a 36-year-old Tae Kwon Do instructor touched him in a sexual manner during three separate incidents at the man’s home.
The boy, who’s name was withheld because he is a minor, moved in July 2007 from Thailand to Burbank, where he and his mother rented a room in Suphachai Leeisaranukul’s home.
“He was a good person, nice,” the boy testified at the Burbank Superior Court during Leeisaranukul preliminary hearing.
Only two days after moving into the home, the boy testified, he had his first uncomfortable encounter with Leeisaranukul, who also goes by the name Chris Lee.
The boy was playing a game of pool when Leeisaranukul walked behind him as if he was going to demonstrate how to use a pool cue, but instead hugged him and pushed his genitals against the boy’s rear, the teen testified.
Leeisaranukul is charged with seven felony counts of lewd acts with a child under 14 and three felony counts of lewd acts against a child under 14 and 15, according to court documents.
He was arrested after police said they investigated claims from the 15-year-old boy, who told his friend’s mother that Leeisaranukul had molested him.
Investigators later discovered that a 12-year-old was also allegedly molested, police said.
Police say Leeisaranukul molested the boys, who were his students at JK Tae Kwon Do studio in Burbank. But Leeisaranukul’s attorney, Dana Cole, said he was not employed at the studio and only helped throw out trash or fix computers there.
The studio has students from throughout the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles, Burbank and Glendale, Manager Daniel Lim said.
The 15-year-old testified that his mother enrolled him in classes at the studio and that Leeisaranukul was his instructor. Between classes and living in the same house they often spent time together, he said.
The second time Leeisaranukul allegedly accosted him the boy was lying on his bed and playing video games when Leeisaranukul walked into the bedroom, sat on the bed and hugged and touched him, he testified.
“He just played with my leg,” the boy said. “I just hit his hand. I just said ‘stop it.’”
Deputy Dist. Atty. Debra Archuleta asked the boy whether he had told his mother about the incidents, but he said he didn’t tell his mother because he was embarrassed.
“Because I just came here and lived here,” he said.
