Ivesdal sentenced to 10 years in prison
By JIM SECKLER/The Daily News | Posted 12 months ago
KINGMAN — The former owner of a Bullhead City martial arts studio will spend the next decade in prison.
Nicholas Adam Ivesdal, 23, was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison for molesting a young girl. He pleaded guilty Aug. 9 to molestation of a child and sexual abuse. Charges of indecent exposure and two counts of aggravated assault were dismissed under the plea agreement.
With his voice breaking, Ivesdal spoke in court apologizing for his actions. Since it was a stipulated sentence, his attorney did not speak.
Deputy Mohave County Attorney Jacob Cote said that there were posters at the martial arts studio that stressed discipline and self-control and that the defendant should have read his own posters since he did not learn those concepts.
Per the plea agreement, Superior Court Judge Steven Conn sentenced Ivesdal to 10 years in prison for the child molestation charge. Ivesdal will also have to spend the rest of his life on probation for the sexual abuse charge. Ivesdal will have to report to the probation department in Kingman the same day he is released from prison. He must also register as a sex offender, Conn said.
Ivesdal owned and had been a teacher at Three Feathers Martial Arts. He was arrested Jan. 15 for inappropriately touching an 8-year-old student on Jan. 9 while they were alone in a room. An employee told police of seeing the molestation on the surveillance video. The video tape was turned over to the Bullhead City Police Department. Ivesdal also owned Black Dragon Karate in Bullhead City several years earlier.
